Cladding structures

Cladding structures for steel-framed buildings are chosen with a view to indoor climate and climatic characteristics of the area. According to their thermal performance roofing structures are divided into insulated and non-insulated (cold) types.

Wall and roof cladding can be of various types:

sandwich panels
sheet-by-sheet assembly
profiled sheets
a combination of variants

Advantages of every option:

  • if viewed from a technical and operational point of view, sandwich panels with mineral wool or polymeric core are the most efficient and practical option. Installation of wall and roof panels takes much less time which automatically makes the installation work cheaper. Moreover, such works don't require heavy and costly material handling equipment. There are practically no maintenance costs: buildings with sandwich panels as cladding structures can do without repair for a long time. In addition, sandwich-panels show good thermal insulation and fire-resistant properties, resistance to hostile environment. This material meets all the sanitary standards, and the polymer coating of the inner surface can be repeatedly cleaned, which allows its successful application even for the food industry.
    Any material can be used for insulation depending on the requirements for heat conductivity and fire safety: basalt fiber (mineral wool), polystyrene foam, polyurethane foam and other materials with low thermal conductivity.
  • unlike the sandwich panels, sheet-by-sheet assembly of cladding structures involves a phased installation: step by step a rolled insulation with reinforced and foiled surface is laid upon the girts and fixed with external profiled sheets (double-layer).
    Another option of a sheet-by-sheet assembly (3-layer): internal and external skins consist of profiled sheets and a layer of mineral wool insulation between them. Sheet-by-sheet assembly is rightfully considered to be one of the most inexpensive ways to insulate steel-framed buildings.
  • for a non-insulated building wall and roof cladding structures are based on the profiled sheets. A profiled sheet is a light-gage hot-dip galvanized steel that can be additionally coated with polymer or paintwork.  A distinction is made between roof and wall profiled sheets. Roof profiled sheets have a deeper profiling which increases the bearing capacity of the sheets. Wall profiles have ribs of a smaller depth.
    Non-insulated cladding structures are mainly used for "cold" warehouses of temporary storage, sheds and annexes, some types of agricultural buildings.
  • in some cases it is recommended to use a combination of cladding structures to get all useful features and properties of the applied materials. For example, a sheet-by-sheet assembly of the roof and use of sandwich panels as a wall cladding can save on the cheaper materials without sacrificing basic technical characteristics.


Raw materials

As a raw material we mainly use rolled steel produced at Cherepovets steel mill, which shows a balance of a product quality and operational durability.

Color of cladding structures is chosen in accordance with the customer's corporate image. The palette used by AO Severstal Sleel Solutions has 18 basic RAL colors.

Flat roof structure


Industrial buildings usually have flat roofs. The reason of high popularity lies in the economical efficiency of flat roofs: in spite of large areas they require noticeably less expenses than pitched roofs. Rather strict requirements of thermal protection are imposed on flat roofs which is not surprising: indoor climate in any building greatly depends on the quality of the roof, and its good thermal insulation helps to reduce heating expenses.



Flat roof design:

  • the base is a bearing plate made of reinforced concrete, monolith or profiled steel sheet;
  • a layer of vapor barrier; 
  • mineral wool insulation; 
  • PVC membrane.
