Steel Structures Production Plant, Orel


AO Severstal Steel Solutions produces steel structures at its own production plant in Orel. The plant is equipped with high-technology processing equipment from Holland, Finland, Germany, Italy, Japan and China. More than 60,000 square meters of production space makes it possible to manufacture large-sized structures and assemble complicated substructures, thereby improving the quality of products and reducing installation time.

Power plant capacity today is 18,000 tons of steel structures per year.

The production chain is organized in a way to optimize the production process and get a high quality product.

Production operations are arranged according to the following scheme:

  • Shot-blasting of steel
  • Butt-seam welding
  • Sheets pattern cutting in gas and plasma cutting machines 
  • Manufacturing of elements for further assembly
  • Structure assembly with tack welding
  • All-round structure welding
  • Shot-blasting of finished products (II stage)
  • Painting

All the manufactured steel structures meet the General technical requirements  of GOST standards of the Russian Federation.

The production chain at the plant in Orel is organized in a way to optimize the production process and get a high quality of building structures.

Shot-blasting unit R-2500/500

 

Continuous shot-blasting of steel plates and profiles of different shapes. Precleaning.

Material passes through the unit upon the special roller table equipped with its own drive. 

Material cleaning is performed in the central part of the unit (shot blasting chamber) with a dense shot blast that hits the surface of the material with a speed of 100 m/s.

Capacity: up to 100 tons per day.

SEAM WELDER Semiautomatic Welding Line

Getting the desired length steel plate by seam welding.

Part of the steel sheet is mounted on a roller table (driven), a thermal cutting module then cuts it to a required length with a mixture of gases (propane + oxygen). After that a whole sheet is installed on the table and the cut part is welded to it with automatic welding. The welded sheet moves to the weld dressing module for finishing with an abrasive tape. Welded joints are tested with ultrasonic flaw detector УД 4-76.

Capacity: up to 30 tons per shift.

OxyCut 12001.30 8G Thermal Cutting Machine

Cutting of steel sheets up to 150 mm thick with a mixture of gases (propane + oxygen).

Steel sheet is installed on the work table of the machine, where it is cut into narrower strips. The machine is equipped with eight cutting heads for this purpose. It also has a function of cutting parts of irregular geometric shapes that is provided by a computer-controlled machine drive.

Capacity: up to 30 tons per day.

Koike Oxygen Cutting Machine

Cutting of steel sheets up to 80 mm thick with a mixture of gases (propane + oxygen).

Steel sheet is installed on the work table of the machine, where it is cut into narrower strips with the help of 10 cutting heads.

Capacity: up to 20 tons per shift.

CombiCut 12001.30 PrkGGB Plasma Cutting Unit

Irregular geometric shape plasma cutting of steel sheet from 1 to 100 mm thick.

Steel sheet is installed on the work table of the machine, where it is cut. The cutter is equipped with a swivel gear that allows bevel cutting. Also the unit is equipped with a drilling head, which can drill holes up to 50 mm in diameter, and two gas cutting heads (propane + oxygen) for cutting plates over 60 mm thick.

Capacity: up to 30 tons per shift.

Koike Plasma Cutting Unit

Irregular geometric shape plasma cutting of steel sheet from 1 to 100 mm thick.

Steel sheet is installed on the work table of the machine, where it is cut. Also the unit is equipped with two gas cutting heads (propane + oxygen) for cutting plates over 40 mm thick.

Capacity: up to 20 tons per shift.

SB-16/2500 (QC12Y-16x2500)

Hydraulic Guillotine Shear

Cutting of steel sheets from 1 to 16 mm thick.

Steel sheet is installed on the work table of the machine, and then fed to the working zone. Cutting is performed with two shears-like blades made of high-alloy steel. The machine allows you to cut parts of regular geometric shapes (stripes, rectangles, squares, etc.).

Capacity: up to 800 parts per hour.

WEH 160/3100 Hydraulic Bending Press

Cold bending of sheets

Cut to size steel sheets are fed into the working area of the machine, the top tool (a punch) goes down to the sheet pressing it into the bottom tool (a die). Thus we get a bend. The machine allows bending profiles of both simple and complex shapes

Capacity: up to 20 bends per minute.

Welding Tractor TС-16

 

Welding tractor TС-16 allows performing gravity position welding in an automatic mode submerged under the layer of flux.

SCI 2000/I1 Beam Welding Line

 

Welding of H-beams of a wide range of sections.                                                 

Three steel strips of the required size are put on the feed rollers of the machine. The section of the future beam depends on the strips width and position of the feed rollers. Then all the three strips are fed in the welding zone, where two automatic torches simultaneously weld them together. After that the beam is rotated with the help of special tilting devices integrated in the line and then welded in the same manner from the other side. Welded joints are tested with ultrasonic flaw detector УД 4-76.

Capacity: up to 2 m/min.

I-beams Assembly Line

 

This high-accuracy stand is used to assemble and weld I-beams, geometric parameters of which make them unprocessable in "SCI 2000/I1" beam welding line. The new stand may assemble and weld short beams (from 500 mm long), and beams of varying geometry with a small web width (from 150 mm).

New technology allows producing I-beams with webs and flanges of different thicknesses in any sequence.

 

Capacity: assembly of up to 14 beams per shift.

VOORTMAN V630/VB1250 Beams Sawing and Drilling System

Sawing to size long and heavy-gauge rolled steel and hole-drilling.

Raw material (rolled steel of different sections) is stored in a job stacker from which it is moved to the sawing zone with the help of a drive. There an item is cut with a band-saw and moved to a transfer conveyor. From there, it goes to the drilling module, where all the required holes are drilled according to the drawings. Then the item is moved to the finished parts storage. The required properties of the item are ensured with a NC control system programmed by an operator.

Capacity: up to 40 tons per shift.

VOORTMAN VB750 Sawing System

Sawing medium and short, mid- and light-gauge rolled steel.

Raw material (rolled steel of different sections) is stored in a job stacker from which it is moved to the sawing zone with the help of a drive. There an item is cut to size with a band-saw and moved to the finished parts storage. The required size of the item is ensured with a NC control system programmed by an operator.

Capacity: up to 20 tons per shift.

Mechanical Department

Mechanical processing of steel parts.

The department is equipped with drilling and milling machines to process parts of complicated geometric shapes.

Capacity: up to 200 parts per shift.

TPX 6211 Boring Mill

Milling of column (beam) base plates to ensure the desired position of the plane of the plate relative to the axis of the column.

A column welded to its base plate is installed on the work table parallel to the machine spindle (shaft) center line. Then the column is clamped and the base plate is milled.

Plates Punching and Drilling System

Drilling and punching a large number of holes in steel plates of different thicknesses and sizes.

Cut to size steel plates are clamped and then holes of the desired diameter are punched or drilled. The required characteristics of the holes (diameter, location, number) are ensured with a NC control system programmed by an operator.

Capacity: up to 30 holes per minute.

Stierli-Bieger 3300 RP NC Hydraulic Press

Bending, alignment of steel beams of various sizes and sections.                                                                                                                                           

A beam is installed in the working area of the machine and bended/aligned with the hydraulic system of the machine. This operation is required to get rid of the residual thermal deformations of welded beams, and to add a lateral radial bend to the beam if required in the drawing.                       

Maximum load - 300 tons.

VOORTMAN V550-4 Punching and Cutting System

Production of parts with holes from steel profile of different sections (angle, channel, strip).

Raw material (rolled steel) is stored in a job stacker from which it is driven to the processing zone. There the required holes are punched and the item is cut to size. Further the item is automatically moved to the storage of finished parts. The required properties of the item are ensured with a NC control system programmed by an operator.

Capacity: up to 30 parts per minute.

Welding Stations

Welder’s workplace is equipped with a welding unit hung from the console and the ways for placing large items. After the assembly unit (structure) is completed with all the parts, the line pattern is applied and pre-assembly of the structure is performed. It is followed with a conformity check and final welding of the parts.

Shot-blasting Chamber

 

Final surface treatment before painting of steel structures.

The chamber includes two carts with drives on which steel structures are placed. Next the carts move into the chamber to clean the surface of the structure. For this purpose DSG upflow blast cleaning unit is used. It is also equipped with a system of abrasive material collection and recovery. The operator holds the spraying nozzle, defines the areas to be treated and cleans them.

Paint Shop

Metal structures are put onto the holding ways, and then finally treated - their surface is degreased. The prepared surfaces of the structures are covered with paint-and-lacquer materials set by the customer with the help of GracoSTMAX2 495 and Graco Mark X airless spraying units. After the required amount of layers is applied the thickness of the paint coating is checked with Constanta К5 dry-film thickness gauge.
